Surgery, University of Rome Tor Vergata, Rome, Italy

A novel approach through the intersphincteric plane for the treatment of anal fistulas, known as LIFT (Ligation of Intersphincteric Fistula Tract)as been recently proposed. It shows low recurrence rates and neglectable effects on anal continence. This technique consists in the identification of the fistula tract, its ligation and section as close as possible to the internal sphincter associated to the excision of the infected cryptoglandular tissue. In this video we present the LIFT technique resuming its surgical steps and, briefly, our initial experience.
