Gastric Ischemic Conditioning Prior to Laparoscopic and Thoracoscopic Ivor-Lewis Esophagectomy

This video illustrates the gastric ischemic conditioning technique prior to laparoscopic and thoracoscopic Ivor-Lewis esophagectomy by division of the left gastric artery at the time of diagnostic laparoscopy. Specific steps for esophagectomy are also shown: creation of gastric conduit, pull-up and esophagogastric anastomosis. We conclude that gastric ischemic conditioning is safe and feasible and may decrease anastomotic leaks by increasing conduit perfusion at the time of pull-up.
