CASE REPORT: THREE CASES OF JEJUNAL DIVERTICULAR PERFORATION, RESULTANT MANAGEMENT, AND A LITERATURE REVIEW
Simran Kripalani*, Erica Roth, Sanjiv Dewan
Surgery, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA

Jejunal diverticular perforation is a rare and potentially life-threatening condition. We present three patients who presented with acute abdominal pain and focal peritonitis. In all three cases, computed tomography (CT) scan revealed free air in the peritoneal cavity and the presence of small bowel diverticulum, suspicious for possible small bowel diverticulum perforation. All three patients were managed operatively with an exploratory laparotomy and small bowel resection for confirmed jejunal diverticulum perforation. This report discusses the clinical presentation, diagnostic workup, surgical management, and postoperative course of patients with jejunal diverticulitis perforation. This case report also serves to highlight the rare nature of this disease and the authors hope to increase awareness and discussion of possible operative and non-operative management strategies.
