Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) is the gold standard for removing large sessile colorectal polyps. It is an en bloc resection associated with lower recurrence rates versus Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) and constitutes definitive treatment for superficially invasive cancers. ESD is a challenging procedure with considerable risk of perforating the large bowel that requires a specialized skillset. There are multiple approaches and strategies to ESD which should be considered by an endoscopist. Our abstract seeks to outline some of the skills, approaches, and training options needed to successfully perform ESD.
