ROBOTIC SUBTOTAL COLECTOMY FOR FAP ON THE DA VINCI SP PLATFORM - ADVANTAGES, DISADVANTAGES AND WORKAROUNDS
Yaron Rudnicki*, David W. Larson
Colon and Rectal Surgery, Mayo Clinic Minnesota, Rochester, MN

The de Vinci SP robotic platform was used to perform a subtotal colectomy with ileorectal anastomosis on a 21 y.o patient with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). The platform is undergoing clinical trials on track for FDA review. The SP robot allows for a single 2.5 cm trocar port, a multi abdominal quadrants access with no need for re-docking, with the ability for 360° relocation of the camera and instruments. On the other hand, there is some difficulty in deploying and operating the camera and instruments when working at a close range and the lack of a vessel sealer, suction and stapler requires an additional assistant port for now. This video presents our experience with the SP robot.
