ROBOTIC ASSISTED SPHINCTER AUGMENTATION DEVICE REMOVAL
Charlotte Horne*, Robert Simon, Kevin M. El-Hayek General Surgery, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH
Magnetic sphincter augmentation devices are currently used for medically refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease. Currently, reasons necessitating removal of this device include dysphagia, odynophagia or persistent symptoms. We present a video series of 3 cases of robotic removal of these devices for persistent reflux symptoms. This video demonstrates the technical complexity of these cases due to significant fibrosis around the device, the feasibility of the removal of these devices, as well as the unique technical advantages of using the Robotic platform in these cases to improve ergonomics as well as minimize surgeon fatigue to facilitate safe and efficient removal.
