MUZI's TENSION FREE PRIMARY CLOSURE TECHNIQUE TO TREAT PILONIDAL SINUS DISEASE: A STEP-BY-STEP VIDEO DEMONSTRATION
Marco Gallinella Muzi, Agnese Cianfarani*, Pietro Mascagni, Francesco Taliente, Claudia Mosconi Università di Roma Tor Vergata, Rome, Italy
Pilonidal sinus disease is a chronic condition causing discomfort and pain mostly in working age males. Muzi's tension free primary closure, first described in 2008, is performed under local anaesthesia in a mean operative time of 30 minutes as day-surgery case. When compared to Limberg flap, the technique proved to be superior in terms of pain experienced in postoperative day 1 and not inferior in terms of success rate and time off work. Recently, long-term results of 514 treatments reported a 98.2% operative success and a 94% of patient's satisfaction. With this step-by-step video we invite surgeons to replicate our findings and advocate for a wider adoption of this promising treatment.
