GASTRIC ADENOCARCINOMA - NEUROENDOCRINE TUMOR AND MIXED ADENONEUROENDOCRINE CARCINOMA: FROM THE COMMON TO THE INFREQUENT
Bernardo Borraez*, Jaime A. Montoya, Oscar A. Guevara, Ricardo Oliveros, Raul Pinilla Instituto Nacional de Cancerologia / Universidad Militar Nueva Granada, Bogota, Colombia
Mixed Adenoneuroendocrine tumors are infrequent diseases, incidentally discovered, that need an experienced pathologist. Diagnosis is difficult due to the mixed components with unspecific symptoms and the treatment is still controversial. For the unusual and infrequent presentation, we describe a case of a 48-year-old patient with clinical signs of dysphagia and progressive weight loss. With an initial diagnosis of advanced gastric adenocarcinoma with liver metastasis the patient received chemotherapy for 2 years. The patient was admitted to our institution and by endoscopy was diagnosed with a type 1 gastric neuroendocrine tumor with multiple liver metastasis. Finally a total gastrectomy and resection of the liver metastases was performed. The pathology report of surgical specimens (stomach) was a mixed adenoneurondocrine tumor and neuroendocrine tumor (liver metastasis).
