LINX WITH HIATAL HERNIA REPAIR: STEP BY STEP
Christopher Lai*, Fahim Habib, Yoshihiro Komatsu, Blair Jobe Esophageal Lung Institute, Allegheny Health Network, Pittsburgh, PA
This video demonstrates the laparoscopic placement of the magnetic sphincter augmentation device with hiatal hernia repair for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. The magnetic device is placed around the gastroesophageal junction, augmenting the lower esophageal sphincter. It is designed in such a way that the propogation of force produced from the esophagus is enough to open the magnetic device as food passes through it. When the stomach distends the force of attraction of the magnetic beads helps keep the valve closed, preventing reflux. This procedure is typically done as an outpatient and provides an alternative to the traditional Nissen fundoplication
