MAGNETIC ASSISTED SURGERY: FIRST U.S. EXPERIENCE AT A SINGLE INSTITUTION
Ivy N. Haskins*, Matthew T. Allemang, Andrew T. Strong, John Rodriguez, Matthew Kroh
Section of Surgical Endoscopy, Department of General Surgery, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, OH

Magnetic assisted surgery is a new platform within the field of minimally invasive surgery. Within the United States, the use of the magnetic surgery platform is currently approved for laparoscopic cholecystectomies in patients with a body mass index between 20 and 34 kg/m2. To date, we have performed ten cholecystectomies with the use of the magnetic surgery platform without an increase in operative time and without any perioperative or 30-day complications related to the magentic surgery device. From our experience, we conclude that magnetic assisted surgery is safe and feasbile. The application of this technology for other general surgery procedures remains to be explored.
