Surgical resection for benign subepithelial tumors near the gastroesophageal junction is difficult, often leading to esophagectomy. Here we demonstrate the feasibility of a novel technique of dual endoscopic resection using retroflexed standard adult upper endoscope and second smaller caliber (baby) endoscope to resect benign GE junction leiomyomas (2-6 cm size) in four patients.
Maneuvering the small caliber endoscope allowed off- axis retraction of the mass while the adult endoscope was used to carry out the dissection from the submucosal tissue. Our experience highlights the feasibility of this minimally invasive approach by enabling triangulation using endoscopic tools.
