Laparoscopic Proctocolectomy with Inter-Sphincteric Disection and Specimen Extraction
Daniel Lawes*, Kevin Huguet, Tonia Young-Fadok, Jonathan E. Efron
Colon and Rectal Surgery, Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale, AZ

We present a video of a 70 year old man with a 10 year history of ulcerative colitis refractory to medical management. He had 5-7 bloody bowel movements per day and was incontinent to liquid stool 2-3 times a day. He underwent a laparoscopic proctocolectomy and end-ileostomy.The video demonstrates complete intra-abdominal mobilization of the colon and rectum. An inter-sphincteric anal dissection was performed to enter the peritoneal cavity and the specimen was delivered through this incision. He made excellent post-operative progress and was discharged on the 4th post-operative day.
